About Camp Ready Child

Camp Ready Child was developed by the University of Mary Student North Dakota Education Association (SNDEA) 2011-2012 members as an initiative to spark discussion about the NDEA Ready Child Initiative and as a fun way to educate both adults and students while promoting a family-friendly environment. The camp is also a great way for U-Mary pre-service teachers to give back to the community while gaining experience planning lessons and activities for parents and students. This camp is open to 50 kindergarten-third grade students and their family members, and is a free event!

Camp Ready Child is a program that supports family time. For this reason,  at least one adult is required to attend the camp with each K-3 grade student. The purpose of the camp is not only to provide fun activities for students, but to also educate parents/guardians and other adults about literacy and how adults influence their children. Parents are highly encouraged to get involved in projects with their children during the course of the camp day and to learn more about what they can do at home to increase literacy and help their student succeed.

University of Mary SNDEA members have organized and designed activities and experiments for young campers to do throughout the day. Activities include, but are not limited to, music and movement, literacy centers, math manipulatives, and a science experiment. All activities at Camp Ready Child will be supervised by University of Mary pre-service teachers who are enthusiastic and dedicated to the field of education. Parents, guardians and adults will attend mini-seminars regarding the NDEA Ready Child initiative and literacy in the home as well as participate in many activities with their camper(s).
